The John Glenn School Board members voted Tuesday night to approve the purchase of flooring equipment and flooring to be installed this summer.
Director of Transportation and Operations Will Groves recommended the purchase of three commercial vacuums for use in the Walkerton and North Liberty Elementary Schools and Urey Middle School, and a polisher for the High School from Tepe Sanitary for $49,957.75. Groves noted that the polisher will eliminate the use of chemicals on the floor at the High School.
Groves also recommended the purchase of Mohawk carpet from the Mohawk Group for the hallways at the Elementary Schools, a section of classrooms at Walkerton Elementary School, the High School auditorium, the walls in the band room, and half of the floor in the choir room. Much of the carpet to be replaced is over 20 years old. The cost was approved at $83,491.52.
The cost of the carpet installation was separated from the purchase of the carpet. The lowest bid was submitted by Nieman’s Carpet in the amount of $41,436.50. Groves said the price may be considered as a not-to-exceed amount as in-house labor is factored in the removal of old carpet. The installation of carpet will be done solely by the vendor.
Groves said the installation should begin in the second or third week in June.
