The pandemic in 2020 brought about several changes, especially when it came to school activities. Many activities were canceled due to COVID-19, but schools got creative when it came to graduation ceremonies.
During that time, Bremen Public Schools decided to hold an outdoor graduation ceremony, followed by a Senior Cruise. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that new tradition continued in 2021 and the Cruise is back following tonight’s graduation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. ET.
“We’re having our first Friday graduation in a long, long time,” said Dr. White. “We usually do it on Sunday, but High School Principal Mr. [Bruce] Jennings decided he was going to mix things up. Of course, we’re going to do the Senior Cruise immediately after. The students really enjoy driving around and honking around town. That will be from the high school, up Plymouth Street and then to Jane’s Park.”
The Bremen Town Council members discussed the Senior Cruise event during their meeting this week. They will be working with the school in the future to ensure a parade permit is secured for approval and iron out other technicalities, such as insurance and liability, surrounding the event.
