The Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members chose USI Consultants to assist with a feasibility study for a proposed canoe/kayak launch along the Yellow River.
The county was recently awarded $4,000 through Arrow Head Country Resource Conservation and Development for the study.
West Township Trustee Terry Borggren, who has spearheaded the project, said USI Consultants have already done a lot of the engineering in the areas where launches could be placed. The company will review the engineering and survey work for the project.
Previously, possible sites for launches were discussed which included the areas of Hickory Road, King Road, Peach Road, 12th Road, 13th Road, and Upas Road. The launches cannot be included in bridge projects on King Road and 11th Road this year, but they still could be placed in those locations following the bridge replacement projects. Borggren said parking areas will also be included in the study and he will discuss possible parking with adjoining land owners to possibly acquire right-of-way for parking.
