The Marshall County Election Board members are looking for poll workers for the upcoming May 3 Primary Election.
Clerk Deb VanDeMark explained to the board members Tuesday morning that 10 Democrat poll workers and 3 Republican poll workers are needed. There are 2 Democrat workers needed in Bourbon, 3 in Bremen, 1 in Argos, 2 in Tyner, and 1 in Lapaz.
If the Republican representatives cannot be found, then the board members can amend the Vote Center plan to only have five poll workers at a Vote Center, but they would rather have the full number of workers available for Election Day. If not enough workers can be found, the board will make a decision to amend the Vote Center plan during a meeting Tuesday, April 26.
Students who are 18 years of age and are registered to vote can work as a poll worker on Election Day. Students who are 16 or 17 years of age may also work as long as the student is a U.S. citizen, a resident of Marshall County, has a grade point average of at least 3.0, has the written approval of the principal of the school, and permission of a parent or guardian. The students will go through the regular poll worker training available Tuesday, April 26, at 9 a.m. or at 6 p.m. ET.
Poll workers get paid $100 to work on Election Day, plus there is a $20 payment for meal allowance and workers get $20 for poll worker training.
The list of poll workers needs to be filled by Tuesday, April 26. Any interested residents should call the Marshall County Clerk’s Office at 574-936-8922.
