More information has been provided in a fatal accident that occurred Monday afternoon in Marshall County.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, a black 2012 Jeep Liberty driven by 26-year-old Scott Swihart of Rochester was westbound on Veterans Parkway east of Michigan Road just after 2:30 p.m. ET when the vehicle went left of center for unknown reasons and stuck a blue 2016 GMC Tercel head on. The GMC was driven by 79-year-old Clifford Weldy of Bremen. Marshall County Coroner John Grolich determined that Weldy died of multiple blunt force injuries at the scene, according to the report.
Police say Swihart and another occupant were transported to a South Bend hospital with injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
The Marshall County Coroner’s Office and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Plymouth Fire Department, Marshall County Highway Department and the Indiana State Police.
