The end of the state Public Health Emergency on March 3 and a recent change in Indiana law means that Hoosiers will receive emergency enhanced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits until the end of May.
Beginning in June, the SNAP benefit amount a household receives will be what it was before the pandemic began, and it will be based on eligibility factors including household size, income and allowable deductions.
According to the USDA, separate from COVID, Congress directed the USDA to study the costs required to purchase a healthy diet. As a result, SNAP benefit amounts have been permanently adjusted as of October 1, 2021, to provide 40-cents additional per person, per meal.
