The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department underwent an update in software with Jail Management System, the Records Management System, and Computer Aided Dispatch, according to Sheriff Matt Hassel.
He told the Marshall County Commissioners this week that the new software combines all of the programs that used to be separate.
“If I call into dispatch and run a license plate or a Driver’s License on somebody, that information is generated in all three of those record systems,” explained Hassel. “If I end up arresting a guy, I bring him into booking, they pull up the booking card, all of the information from the Driver’s License is already typed into the booking card. It’s really quite unique.”
He said the new software is going to save $30,000-$40,000 as the company, One Source, provides the servers and the maintenance on those servers.
With the new software, Jordan Rans and Matt Pitney will be traveling to Florida to do more training with Central Square at a conference at the end of the month.
The commissioners approved the travel request with a unanimous vote.
Additionally, the sheriff asked for the commissioners to review a request to increase electronic report fees. He explained that it is mainly due to an officer’s effort to prepare car camera footage.
Hassel said, “The officer has to go through that video and make sure there’s not anything that is not releasable. So, he’s got to sit there and watch the entire video and redact spots so it may take him two or three hours to do that.”
The proposal is to increase the fee to $25 for the first hour of labor and $25 for each additional hour to the maximum of $150. It would be a $10 per hour increase. The commissioners will review that with a decision to be made in a future meeting.
