The Indiana State Police investigators from the Bremen Post are investigating the death of an inmate at the Marshall County Jail.
The jail staff members were reportedly alerted by an inmate that a bunkmate was suffering from a possible medical episode at 1 a.m. ET on Wednesday, February 16. They initiated medical protocol and the inmate, 61-year-old Lester Steele, Jr. became unresponsive, according to the report. Police say the jail staff began life-saving efforts until emergency medical technicians arrived. Steele, Jr. was transported to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth where he was pronounced deceased.
The family has been notified.
An autopsy was scheduled. Police say this is an ongoing investigation and it will be several weeks until the Marshall County Coroner’s report is completed.
