A Teegarden man lost his life in a car-train accident in the area of Quince Road and First Road in Marshall County Monday afternoon.
According to Marshall County Coroner John Grolich, 62-year-old Dennis Johnson was traveling south and stopped at the railroad crossing in the area of Quince Road and First Road around 4:15 p.m. ET and reportedly drove around the downed crossing arms with warning lights. Johnson’s vehicle was struck by the front engine of a westbound CXS train which sent the vehicle west of the intersection about 75 feet, according to the report.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.
The accident occurred less than a mile from Johnson’s home, according to Grolich.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Marshall County Coroner responded to the scene, as well as Polk Township Fire Department, Union North Ambulance, and Lyon’s Towing.
