The Plymouth School Board members approved General Obligation Bond financing and other finances to complete several projects this year.
Maintenance Director Dave Schoof, and Ryan Bowland from Barton Coe Vilamaa presented an outlook of the facilities to the board members Tuesday night. Bowland explained that control systems for HVAC and other units are outdated at nearly every school in the corporation and should be replaced to optimize efficiency.
Some HVAC systems should be replaced to improve air quality. At the high school, electrical gear needs to be replaced, along with some plumbing fixtures.
Funding will also be used to build solar array systems at the Washington Discovery Academy and Riverside Intermediate School, asphalt and sidewalk work at Washington Discovery Academy, tend to some playground equipment to make it more inclusive to all students, install concrete at outdoor sports facilities at the Lincoln Junior High School, and replace the auditorium seating and the varsity gym floor. Many other interior and exterior updates were proposed for projects at most of the school buildings in the corporation.
Along with the General Obligation Bond of about $5.6 to $5.8 million, the corporation plans to use $1.2 million in funds received as a result of the pandemic relief for the HVAC projects, and other funds from a 2018 bond.
The work would be bid out in the summertime and start work in the fall.
The board approved plans to move forward, along with the notice of hearings for the solar projects.
