Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel presented a grant request to the Marshall County Council members last week concerning the purchase of equipment.
Hassel explained that the grant would be used to purchase new body cameras for the correctional officers at the jail. The new cameras would be an upgrade the current equipment and software.
He noted that the road officers do not have body cameras.
The grant comes from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the sheriff would ask for $4,000 for the grant with a match of $4,000 to come out of the Jail Supplies line item in the sheriff’s budget.
The request was approved with a unanimous vote.
