Eighty New COVID-19 Cases Reported Locally

Another 80 people in the tri-county area have tested positive with COVID-19, according to Thursday’s update from the Indiana Department of Health. There were 45 new cases in Marshall County, 22 new cases in Starke County and 13 new cases in Pulaski County.

Statewide, there were 15,277 new cases reported from December 27 to January 5.

An additional 150 people have died of COVID-19 from October 13 to January 5, including two people in Marshall County and one person in Pulaski County.

There are 3,303 COVID-19 patients in hospitals around the state, according to the state’s coronavirus dashboard.  That same source cites that 35 percent of available ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients. Only 9.5 percent of ICU beds are available in the state.

The Omicron variant is slowly becoming more widely seen as health officials analyze samples.
