COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters Available to Hoosiers Ages 12-15

The Indiana Department of Health announced Wednesday that residents ages 12-15 are eligible to receive a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, as long as the second shot in the Pfizer vaccine series was administered at least five months ago.

The Pfizer vaccine is only vaccine approved for individuals younger than 18.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the FDA recently announced the eligibility.

The FDA also expanded the Pfizer Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by shortening the time between the completion of the primary vaccination series from six months to five months and allowing certain immunocompromised children aged 5-11 to receive a third primary series dose.

Indiana Department of Health officials say the booster doses have been shown to increase protection from hospitalization and death against the highly infectious Omicron variant.
