During the Jan. 24 Bremen Town Council meeting, an ordinance was passed that created a fund for the park pool and aquatic facility. Those two are part of the Stellar Grant application from 2020. The ordinance was passed unanimously.
The council then discussed if the park board has the authority to spend budgeted parks and recreation funds. Attorney for the town, Tony Wagner, said that the board can spend funds that are already budgeted.
“You’ve given them X amount of dollars for their annual budget. If they said, ‘We want to stop putting money into the little league fields and put that all into the tennis courts,’ could they do that? I think they can,” Town Attorney Tony Wagner said.
Wagner added that it was his experience that the park board have been trustworthy with their budgeted funds. “The people that I’ve dealt with from the park board are all people that I’ve been involved with in community projects and are people I absolutely trust,” he said.
