The Bremen School Board members were updated last week on a counseling program that was initiated following the passage of a referendum question on the 2020 ballot.
Superintendent Dr. Jim White said the referendum allowed the school to raise taxes six cents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation to hire staff to assist with student health services.
“Three of those young ladies came in to describe the program that they’re building and the types of services that they’re providing to the students,” stated Dr. White. “It was received really well by the board. The board was excited about it and the progress they’re making and the partnerships they’re making with the students and families, and the potential it’s going to have for student achievement. We’re really proud of that and look forward to seeing where it goes in the future.”
The school was able to hire two mental health therapists and an additional school counselor and an additional school nurse with money collected with the referendum funds.
