Two Marshall County office holders received awards from the Indiana Association of County Commissioners.
Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer was named the 2021 North Distinguished County Commissioner of the Year. Overmyer has served as a county commissioner since 1999 and has served as president each year.
Overmyer serves on the U.S. 31 Coalition, and as a representative for MACOG, and previously served on the Indiana Statewide 911 Board for six years. He has been instrumental in bringing fiber optics to the county, and in the establishment of the County Economic Development Corporation and Regional Development Corporation. He also supported legislation to add a fourth court to the county and provided leadership during the 2018 flood and the recent public health emergency during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with many other achievements.
Marshall County Auditor Julie Fox was named the 2021 Outstanding Supportive Auditor of the Year during the Indiana Association of County Commissioners conference.
Fox works with local government units in the county on Stellar Communities projects and tracking numerous grant projects and funding. She incorporated technology by digitizing property record cards, online filing of deductions and exemptions, electronic submission of claims, online employee portals for benefits, and access to paystubs and training. She updated the county’s financial system in line with the DLGF and State Board of Accounts coding to be able to upload annual financial reporting and budgets.
Fox has served the Indiana Auditors Association as secretary, treasurer and president. She also served on the Association of Indiana Counties Legislative Committee.
Overmyer and Fox were recognized for their efforts during the Marshall County Commissioners meeting Monday morning.
