Marshall County Sheriff Releases Name of Officer in Officer-Involved Shooting Incident in Culver

The Marshall County Sheriff has released the name of the officer who was involved in an officer-involved shooting incident in Culver on Sunday, November 28.

Sheriff Matt Hassel said Sergeant Matthew Brown was the officer involved in the incident.  Sergeant Brown is a 14-year veteran of the Law Enforcement Division of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.  He is also a certified accident reconstructionist for the department.

According to an investigation by the Indiana State Police, 33-year-old Dylan Bush, of Culver, was suspected of driving his white Chevrolet passenger car while intoxicated in the area of State Road 17 west of Culver around 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 28.  The Culver Police Department attempted a traffic stop, but Bush reportedly failed to stop and led police on a pursuit through Marshall County.

Police say Bush stopped his vehicle in a parking lot in the 1100 block of North Lake Shore Drive in Culver and Sergeant Brown from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department stopped his police vehicle in front of Bush’s car.  Sergeant Brown exited his vehicle and Bush allegedly drove his vehicle forward, pinning the deputy between both cars.  Police say Sergeant Brown then fired several rounds from his department-issued handgun, striking Bush.

Bush was pronounced dead at the scene.  The family has been notified.

Sergeant Brown was treated and released from the hospital.

Sheriff Hassel noted that the names of officers in officer-involved shooting incidents are withheld until they have been properly interviewed and their statement given to the investigating agency.

The incident remains under investigation.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
