Winter Weather Preparedness Week Begins November 7

Winter Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana is November 7-13.

Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery urges everyone to be weather aware.  A Winter Weather Advisory means that winter weather conditions are expected to cause significant inconveniences and may be hazardous.  A Winter Storm Watch means that a storm is possible, and a Winter Storm Warning means that a storm is occurring or will soon occur in the area.

If there is inclement weather, be sure to allow extra time to get to a destination, clean snow and ice from the car’s windshield, headlights and taillights, and put together an emergency kit to keep in the vehicle.  The emergency kit should include a mobile phone charger; extra clothing, blankets or a sleeping bag; a flashlight and extra batteries; jumper cables; tow strap; small tool kit; emergency flares; a shovel; sand or cat litter for traction; first-aid kit; high-calorie non-perishable food; knife; waterproof matches or a lighter; and a small can to melt show for drinking water.

At home, clear sidewalks and driveways of snow and ice to reduce the risk of slips and falls, maintain heating systems, and install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
