For the next six weeks, hundreds of law enforcement agencies across Indiana will participate in the “Safe Family Travel” campaign. Officers will be working overtime to deter impaired driving and to ensure drivers and passengers are properly using seat belts while traveling.
The high-visibility patrols are funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and funds are disbursed by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The patrols will be concentrated around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year’s holidays.
Law enforcement officers want to remind motorists that most traffic fatalities can be prevented by not driving impaired, always wearing a seat belt, following posted speed limits, and avoiding distractions.
