Hoosiers ages 5 to 11 are now eligible to receive a free pediatric COVID-19 vaccine following Tuesday’s authorization by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to the Indiana Department of Health.
Beginning Thursday at 8 a.m. ET, parents who would like to schedule an appointment to have their child immunized may visit www.ourshot.in.gov or call 211. A parent or guardian must provide consent, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult to the vaccination site.
The Pfizer vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine that is authorized for children under 18. Health officials say the pediatric dose of Pfizer is lower than the dosage for residents 12 and older so parents should ensure that a site is found that carries the pediatric dose.
Locally, residents may call the local health departments for more information or to make appointments.
