Two people were arrested Tuesday night in La Porte County after reportedly fleeing a traffic stop in Plymouth.
A Plymouth Police Department officer stopped a vehicle for an alleged speeding violation on U.S. 30 east of Plymouth-Goshen Trail at 10:20 p.m. ET. Police say the driver initially stopped, but then fled the scene before the officer could approach the vehicle. The pursuit traveled into Starke County and continued west into La Porte County where officers were able to deploy stop sticks in order to disable the vehicle at U.S. 30 and State Road 39, according to the Plymouth Police Department report.
Police say after the tires were deflated, the driver ran the vehicle into the median and the two occupants fled on foot. They were eventually captured and taken into custody without further incident.
The occupants, 22-year-old Jeremiah Brown and 23-year-old Michael E. Cooper, Jr., both of Chicago, were taken to the Marshall County Jail. Cooper faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and possession of marijuana, while Brown faces a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement.
Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
