Two students were honored during Tuesday night’s John Glenn School Board meeting for their efforts at a recent competition in Ohio.
Sophie McLochlin and Emma Borton were part of the Marshall County Horse Judging Team Event in the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio last week and won several awards during the experience.
John Glenn High School Principal Chris Manering introduced the students to the school board Tuesday night.
“This is the largest and most prestigious event of this type in the country,” said Manering. “They practice approximately five hours per hours a week after school in the Ag Room from January to October. Over the last several years, this group has done well at contests all over the country. They have won national and world championships both as individuals and as a team. Many former members have gone to go on win scholarships and compete very successfully in college. As you can see, they have a ton of different awards right there!”
Manering added that both students are being recruited by several colleges where they could receive significant scholarships.
McLochlin and Borton explained the process and thanked the school board for approving the overnight field trip request so they could participate in the event. John Glenn teacher and sponsor Tim McLochlin also thanked the school board for their support.
