The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members reviewed proposed changes to construction standards to the city’s utilities.
Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson presented information to the board members Monday night which included spacing of water hydrants, among other changes.
“We have been requested, from fire chiefs, to reduce the spacing from 600 to 500 feet,” explained Davidson. “The service line size for new construction – we have updated that to a standard one inch size. That doesn’t mean that it has to be a one inch meter. With a lot of homes using more facilities now and irrigation and so on, it makes more sense to put an oversized line in and then it’s available if they need it at a later date instead of re-digging it.”
Another change would authorize using the same brand of meters for new construction for ease of meter reading, servicing and removal. Additionally, a poly-type piping has been identified as an acceptable, more affordable option, and the standards would include the installation of locating wire in new sewer lines.
The board members approved a motion that passed a resolution that adopts amendments to the Water Project Construction Standards for the Plymouth Water Department, and amendments to the Sanitary Sewer, Storm Sewer, and Sanitary Lift Station Construction Standards for the Plymouth Wastewater Department.
