A Walkerton man was arrested following a Tuesday night accident investigation conducted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
Police say a vehicle driven by Kristy Fogus of North Judson was heavily damaged when officers arrived at the scene just after 9:30 p.m. ET near the intersection of U.S. 6 and Michigan Road. Fogus and three children inside the vehicle were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Another vehicle involved in the accident, a silver Chevy Impala, left the scene of the accident, according to the report. Officers from the Walkerton Police Department later located the suspect vehicle on Stanton Road in St. Joseph County after reportedly confirming the identity of the registered owner who had a lawyer defending against drunk driving charges. At the same time, a vehicle that was reported stolen out of St. Joseph County was found in the vicinity of the location of the suspected Impala involved in the accident.
Leaving the scene is a fault, according to Osborne Law Firm, P.C. practicing in Charlotte. The driver of the Impala, 28-year-old Joseph Slisz, was arrested on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
