The Culver Community School Board members met in a work session Monday night to go over potential building infrastructure updates and how to fund those projects.
The board members have been working with SitelogIQ to narrow down possible priority projects at the corporation. Nelson Brikho from SitelogIQ presented a list to the board after previous discussions held on the matter. He explained that if the board moves forward with the projects, design would begin in 2022 with bids to be let in November or December in 2022 and with improvements to begin in Spring of 2023. All of the improvements would be done in 2023.
Some of the work at the Middle School/High School outlined in a summary includes the replacement of the 1968 electrical service panels and sub panels and include more outlets in classrooms, renovate restroom finishes and fixtures, install a new gym floor, and replace water piping. An ADA lift would be installed that adds more about it to the stage, and the locker rooms would be remodeled for ADA requirements. The band and choir rooms would get an upgrade and officials would design new pick-up and drop-off areas and replace asphalt.
At the Elementary School, water piping would be replaced, the gym floor would be replaced, the boilers would be replaced along with hot water heaters, and an ADA lift would be added to the stage. The Media Center would be renovated into a learning lab, and officials would design a new front and back pick-up and drop-off area.
The project estimate is upwards of $10.6 million and the board members are considering taking out a first mortgage bond to pay for the project. According to Brock Browsher from Baker Tilly, the financing would be done with no impact to the tax rate as some debt is falling off in the next few years. Debt Service Funds would be used to pay back the mortgage after the project is done in 2023.
The school board will be holding a public hearing concerning the scope and financing of the potential project Monday, November 1 and Monday, November 15 during their regular school board meetings at 7 p.m. ET at the Culver Schools Administration Building.
