Crews are working on the second phase of the Lake Max Trail in Culver.
The second phase of the Lake Max Trail includes a one-mile extension of the trail from the Culver Park to Washington Street, Plymouth Street and South Main Street.
The design of the trail has undergone several amendments to accommodate residents along the route who had concerns about the size of the trail through their properties, mostly along Plymouth Street. The amendments also addressed drainage issues in some areas.
Culver Town Manager Ginny Bess Munroe said the Jefferson Street trail is nearing completion with another phase in the design discussion stage.
Munroe commented, “Lake Max phase three will extend from our park where it ends on Academy Road and we’re going to go north down the old railroad corridor, then we’re going to cross over State Road 10 and go down Sycamore Street. That’ll create sort of a loop that starts to go out of our jurisdictional boundaries and eventually, hopefully, head around the lake.”
Other trail projects are within the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Communities Initiative.
“Those will connect The Paddocks and Sandhill Farm housing development to the local schools and also downtown Culver. We wanted to make sure when we’re putting in housing that we connect those new places to our assets in town being our school, our lake and our downtown area,” said Munroe.
Those trail project designs will be developed soon with public input sessions in future meetings.
