Crossing the street at Shaffer Road and Harris Street in Bourbon will be a little safer following a decision by the Bourbon Town Council members Tuesday night.
Bourbon Town Council President Ward Byers explained that a family in the area requested a crosswalk at that location as there are children who cross the road in that area.
“That area was studied,” said Byers. “There are about 10 kids daily who cross that area over to the school property. Superintendent Riffle and I have met there, we’ve looked it over, and had consultations with Roger [Terry, Street Superintendent]. The plan would be to paint a school crossing on the actual street and put up the appropriate signage on either side. It would be an unsupervised crossing.”
The proposed plan was relayed to the neighbors and Byers said it was acceptable to them.
The crosswalk was approved with a unanimous vote by the Bourbon Town Council.
