South Bend Man Accused of Resisting Law Enforcement after Traffic Stop

A South Bend man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop.

Plymouth Police Department officers say 23-year-old Markey L. Smallwood was stopped by an officer in the area of Veterans Parkway and Michigan Road.  The officer was explaining to Smallwood the nature of the traffic stop when Smallwood allegedly put the car into gear and fled from the stop.  A pursuit continued north on U.S. 31 and 931 and ended at Johnson Road and Linden Road in South Bend when Smallwood lost control of his vehicle and it went off the roadway, according to the report.

Smallwood was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for medical clearance.  He was then booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
