Governor Extends Public Health Emergency through End of October

Indiana’s public health emergency has been extended through the end of October. Governor Holcomb renewed the emergency declaration for a 19th time in an executive order Thursday.

Another executive order extends a number of COVID-19 protocols for schools and health care professionals. As it stands, schools have to report any known cases and conduct contact tracing, but the Indiana Department of Health allows them to ease their quarantine requirements if everyone in the classroom wears masks.

Meanwhile, hospitals have to have standards to determine whether or not they have the capacity to handle non-emergent procedures. Doctors and nurses whose medical licenses are set to expire October 31 have been given another 30 days to get them renewed, and health care workers given temporary licenses have had them extended through December 31.

Holcomb once again encouraged Hoosiers to get a COVID-19 vaccine, saying it provides “the single best protection from serious illness and hospitalization.”
