Several projects were on the list to be done during the summer at John Glenn schools, and some will still continue through the start of the school year.
Those projects included window replacements at both North Liberty and Walkerton Elementary Schools, updating the HVAC units in every classroom and controls at North Liberty Elementary School, updating controls at Walkerton Elementary, door replacements, and finishing LED light changeovers at both elementary schools. Some work on restrooms was also planned at Urey Middle School. If people need HVAC services, they can visit website and get them installed.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell told the John Glenn School Board members Tuesday night that the maintenance team will be helping out at the schools that are not quite ready.
“We still feel really good about getting the kids in on Wednesday,” stated Winchell. “There’s a few teacher rooms that aren’t quite ready yet and some of our colleagues are getting antsy because they want to get in there and do their bulletin boards and get things ready. We had big projects in a short time frame, but all things considered, even with that delay with HVAC units, we’re still pretty close to our original timeline.”
Several back-to-school events were held to help get students supplies needed for the start of their academic year. Winchell thanked the many volunteers and sponsors for the pack-a-backpack event where over 200 backpacks were donated along with supplies to fill those backpacks.
