Law enforcement officials warn residents against drinking and driving as they get ready for the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled over enforcement mobilization.
The enforcement is ongoing until September 6. Officers will be increasing patrols showing zero tolerance for anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The campaign is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drunk driving has been on the rise in Indiana. Of the 898 traffic fatalities that occurred last year in the state, their statistics determined that 151, or 17 percent, were alcohol related.
Officers ask that drivers seek a sober driver before planning to consume alcohol. Motorists that encounter a drunk driver on the road are encouraged to call 911.
