The Plymouth School Board members took public comments Tuesday night concerning a proposed contract for a new superintendent.
The board members have been searching for a new superintendent since the resignation of former superintendent Andy Hartley. His last day was June 30 of this year.
A new superintendent has not yet been announced, but the contract offers an annual base salary of $128,000 with an annuity, VEBA, gasoline allowance, telephone allowance, board contribution to group health/dental/vision insurance premium, life insurance, and association memberships for a total contract value of $169,843. The salary will be reviewed each year.
The superintendent will be evaluated by the board using the same categories applied to teachers and other administrators.
The superintendent will also receive 20 vacation days per year and other holiday breaks provided for all staff members in the school calendar. Twelve sick days will be granted along with five personal days.
The contract will be in effect from September 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024. It is posted on the Plymouth Community School Corporation’s website.
Former Superintendent Dan Tyree commented that he appreciated the board’s efforts in raising the salary, but he said they should be offering a higher salary. School Board President Melissa Christiansen noted that the salary is just under a five percent increase from the previous contract.
Plymouth Education Association President Laura Kruyer asked about the increase and Christiansen said it was negotiated with the candidate based on years of experience. Kruyer pointed out that the salary is comparable to Middlebury School Corporation.
There were no other public comments given during the meeting and the hearing was closed.
The contract will be approved in a future meeting. The announcement of a new superintendent should be made in the next couple of weeks.
