The Plymouth Community School Board approved the hire of Mitchell D. Mawhorter as the next superintendent of schools at Plymouth Community School Corporation.
The board members unanimously approved Mawhorter’s employment in a specially-called meeting Tuesday night.
Mitch Mawhorter comes to Plymouth schools having served nearly 10 years as Superintendent at Union-North United School Corporation. He holds a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University, a Masters degree in Education and Supervision from IUSB, and an EDS degree from Indiana State University.
He spent the first 22 years of his educational career at the Jimtown School Corporation serving as a 6th grade Math and Language Arts teacher, assistant principal for Jimtown Intermediate, assistant principal for Jimtown High School, building principal at Jimtown North K-3, and as the Jimtown Junior High principal.
School Board President Melissa Christiansen said it was a process that was not taken lightly.
Christiansen commented, “I want to thank all of our staff and parents who provided input early in the process, members of the University Search Team for their guidance, Administrator Assistance for connecting us with Dr. Diane Woodworth who’s done an excellent job as interim superintendent, our own Assistant Superintendent Jill VanDriessche for putting in many extra hours to make sure positions were filled and we were able to start school on the right foot, and our Central Office staff. Most of all, I would like to thank every one of the board members for their hard work.”
Mawhorter was unable to be at the meeting Tuesday night due to health reasons, but will be around campus soon to begin his duties as superintendent. His first official day is September 1.
