The Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members reviewed proposals for moving the West Township Trustee cabin from its current location on State Road 17 to possibly a piece of property at the West Township School across the street or to Memorial Forest.
Yoder’s Log and Timber in Nappanee, Indiana had the lower of two proposals at about $68,000. The proposal includes the cost of moving the historic building and replacing some flooring and logs by Infinity Construction Services in Vancouver, WA, plus chinking and roofing.
One appraisal has been received concerning property at the old West Township School. Donations toward the project will pay for the appraisal. They will consider the average of the two required appraisals to know where costs will end up to acquire property for the cabin’s new location. The Board of Zoning Appeals and the Drainage Board would need to approve some steps in the process.
The board members approved a motion to approve the proposal for $68,000 contingent upon funding. Board Secretary Deb VanDeMark commented that she was notified of a possible grant through the Marshall County Community Foundation to help with funding of this project. She applied for the grant up to $100,000. She will receive notification if the board is successful in the application in the coming weeks.
