Indiana’s Number of New COVID-19 Cases Hits 2,000 for First Time in Six Months

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Indiana has surpassed 2,000 for the first time since early February. Eight of those cases are among Starke County residents, seven are from Marshall County, and four are from Pulaski County, according to Friday’s update from the Indiana Department of Health.

Another nine Hoosiers have died, bringing Indiana’s total confirmed death count to 13,624.

Starke County’s vaccination rate continues to lag behind its neighbors slightly. Just over 37 percent of Starke County residents age 12 and up are fully vaccinated, compared to over 42 percent in Pulaski County and almost 43 percent in Marshall County. Of the almost three million Hoosiers fully vaccinated, only about 5,300 are known to have since tested positive, and only 69 of them have died from COVID-19.
