While the crowdfunding money for the new Bourbon Sports Court has been receipted into a fund in the town’s budget for construction to begin, work has been delayed.
Bourbon Town Council President Ward Byers gave an update to the council Tuesday night.
“The pickleball poles and netting and everything is like everything else – ordered and backordered again,” stated Byers. “The basketball systems, the poles, backboards and all of that were supposed to be installed next week. However, I got an email late today [Tuesday] of production and construction delays.”
Byers said an update on when construction will begin will be communicated soon. Meanwhile, asphalt removal and milling for that area is still expected to occur this month.
The Town of Bourbon was successful in collecting money for this project through a crowdfunding grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places program. Residents and business owners were generous in donating over $30,000 toward this project for the match of a crowdfunding grant from the State for $30,000.
The project will update the current basketball courts and add a pickleball court, among other improvements. Byers previously said the core project is currently estimated to cost under $42,000, leaving over $20,000 for benches, lighting, bleachers, or potential cost overruns.
In a separate project, Byers noted the playground equipment at the town park is tentatively set to be installed in September.
