The Bremen Town Council members reviewed a contract with engineering firm Jones Petrie Rafinski last week to assist with preliminary engineering work for the Bremen Wastewater Facility project.
Ken Jones told the town council in an earlier meeting that his firm recommended the construction of a new facility after representatives conducted a study of the current facility. He said deficiencies exist with every process at the current Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Jones previously told the council that he submitted a State Water Infrastructure Fund grant application on behalf of the town with a request of $3.5 million which will go toward the preliminary cost of a new facility of over $11 million. A State Revolving Loan would help the town with more of the cost of the recommended project. An application would be submitted at the end of the year.
Jones said some work would be done by another firm.
“There are some things that JPR will have to subcontract out and that includes the environmental review, archeology review and historic reviews. We usually partner with a company out of Walkerton, which is Cardno,” said Jones.
He also mentioned that the interceptor needs work and should be included in the preliminary engineering report as a separate analysis cost. Videography and flow monitoring reports will be done to determine the size of piping needed. A new effluent line from the new facility to the river would need to be investigated.
The additional work would be $72,000 which was unanimously approved by the town council. All of the cost would be reimbursed to the town when awarded funding for the project.
A public hearing on the project is tentatively scheduled for December.
