The Bremen Town Council members opened a public hearing Monday afternoon concerning the annexation of land to accommodate a 35 acre solar park to be located on 1st Road in Bremen.
IMPA Solar Project Developer Darrin Jacobs explained that the project will be interconnected with Bremen’s electric system to assist with 6.75 MW of electricity.
“That solar park is sized so that no more power would be generated than what Bremen would need on its lowest usage day and time,” explained Jacobs. “We would never push it out on the grid. This isn’t going to go on any transmission lines. It will only be used within Bremen.”
Jacobs added that it will not service the entire town, but will provide a small percentage available to the town.
In all, IMPA has 35 solar parks in several communities within their jurisdictions that total about 130 MW.
The property to be annexed is non-contiguous to the town which is allowed by code.
Town Attorney Anthony Wagner said there was a lot of public input at a zoning hearing in the fall and nothing has changed in the plans since that hearing.
Town Councilman Rick Graverson had a few procedural questions which were addressed, but there was no other public comment during the meeting.
Following the public hearing, the Bremen Town Council members unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to move forward with the annexation.
If the ordinance is adopted, the project could begin this fall with construction to last about 8 to 10 months.
