The Before and After Program at the John Glenn School Corporation has now transitioned into a licensed Boys and Girls Club.
In a previous meeting, Superintendent Christopher Winchell explained to the school board members that Boys and Girls Club officials would take care of all of the finances and hire all of the current staff members who are part of the Before and After Program. They would possibly see a raise with going to the Boys and Girls Club, but there would be about 40 hours of training in order to tutor to the nationwide curriculum.
The Strive Program would be available to kids from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET which would focus on learning loss in key areas of study which would be free for the next three years. If the grant for the program is not renewed, then it would be part of the cost of the program.
Winchell said the transition has been a great success.
“That’s been so popular we actually ran out of room so we’ve created an overflow room to cover the parents who need childcare until we’re able to increase our staffing in the Boys and Girls program,” said Winchell. “That was a neat problem to have that that’s been so popular – we have more kids than we ever imagined we’d have so we’re excited about that!”
The club director may be at a future school board meeting to talk more to the board members about the program.
