John Glenn School Board members and Superintendent Christopher Winchell are moving forward with expanding Head Start at the school corporation.
John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell previously explained that a request was made to host an additional Head Start class at Walkerton Elementary School. With a concern about classroom space at the Elementary School, Winchell told the school board during an earlier meeting that a discussion started with the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church about hosting the classes at the church. He said the Catholic Church used to host elementary catholic school classes there so the classroom space would be available. The additional class could expand even further, if needed, in the space at the Catholic Church.
Winchell updated the board on the progress during Tuesday night’s meeting saying that Head Start is working to the church to a point where is can be a licensed.
(Winchell stated, “Previously, we were serving 17 kids in an AM program and 17 kids in a PM program so our goal this year is to serve 40 kids all day with next steps in the future to increase that to 60 kids in an all-day program. We’re also looking at possible preschool programming as well.”
The school board supports the idea saying in previous meetings that they are looking forward to helping more students get the education and skills needed to have a successful start to kindergarten at John Glenn schools.
