Two Allegan, Michigan residents were arrested Monday night after reportedly leading police on a pursuit in Marshall County with a child in the car.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department officers say a traffic stop was attempted in the area of U.S. 31 and 14C Road in Argos around 6 p.m. ET, but the driver did not stop.  The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Joshua Hess, reportedly drove a maroon Malibu over 100 mph and into oncoming traffic on U.S. 31 at times.  Hess also struck a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department vehicle during the incident, according to the report.

The pursuit ended near the BP gas station in Argos.  Upon further investigation, police say a one-year-old child was found in the back seat of the vehicle.  The child was released to Child Protective Services, as stated in the report.

Hess was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, neglect of a dependent, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia.  Police say he was also found to have a warrant out of state.

A passenger in the vehicle, 30-year-old Jade Meyer, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and neglect of a dependent.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Argos Police Department, Plymouth Police Department and the Fulton Town County Sheriff’s Department.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
