The area is under a slight risk for severe weather Wednesday night (July 28) into Thursday morning.
Marshall County EMA Director Clyde Avery says the National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain and damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph. Winds could cause damage to trees and branches leading to power outages or other structural damage. Heavy rain could cause flash flooding, flooding of low lying areas and areas that are prone to flooding during heavy rains.
Until then, Avery suggests a review of the household’s emergency kit. Check flashlights and lanterns to make sure they are functioning properly, and make sure cell phones are charged.
If power lines fall on roadways, do not touch them as they could still be energized. Call the Sheriff’s Department to report any downed power lines. Additionally, never drive through high water areas and be mindful of barricades or high water signs.
