Marshall County Dispatcher Given Stork Award

(L to R) Marshall County Sheriff’s Department 911/Communications Director Matt Pitney, Dispatcher Morgan Hite, Sheriff Matt Hassel

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Dispatcher Morgan Hite was recently awarded the stork award for her efforts in aiding a pregnant woman to give birth before emergency responders were able to arrive to the scene.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the 9-1-1 call came in on July 8 around 9 a.m. ET where the pregnant woman stated that she was about to give birth.  Hite immediately dispatched responders and prepared to give instructions to the woman over the phone.  With Hite’s help, the woman gave birth to a baby girl without complications.  Culver-Union Township EMS and firefighters arrived at the scene a short time later where EMS staff transported mother and baby to the hospital.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department 9-1-1/Communcations Director Matt Ptiney says it is rare for dispatchers to encounter such a task. It is so rare that some dispatchers can go an entire career without relaying birthing instructions over the phone.  He said Hite’s quick reactions and calmness contributed to a successful outcome.

Hite has been a full-time employee of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department since June 3, 2019.  She is a certified Communications Training Officer with the department.
