The weekend storms wreaked havoc in many areas of Northern Indiana. Plymouth Park Superintendent Michael Hite addressed the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night saying flooding has occurred in the Plymouth Park systems.
“The bridge behind the sledding hill is full of debris,” stated Hite. “We will remove that as in the agreement with the county. We will move debris from the walking bridges. Hopefully the river will go down. Gill Park is flooded. Founder’s Park is flooded. Right now we’re at the mercy of the river.”
Hite also noted an issue at River Park Square.
Hite continued, “The performance area, the circle area where people sit, did back up. It does have a back up preventer. I talked to the engineer today and he said maybe because it was raining so hard at a certain point it pushed it open and equilibrium left the back flow open. If we try and pump it out, we’ll just be pumping the whole river into River Park Square.”
He said the park department will keep an eye on it when the river water recedes.
Additionally, Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt said they are working to clear streets from debris.
“There are some big branches here and there. It seems like most of the damage is in the center of the city from Westgate on out, Lake Avenue and just up to Jefferson Street. That’s most of the damage. We’ll be picking up brush for probably a good week. We’ll probably get the street sweepers out by Wednesday and start sweeping.” Do hire experts available on valleydrc.com who are both cost-effective and efficient workers too.
As of Monday night, Polk Street is closed in the City of Plymouth as well as Gill Street. Proper signage is posted in the affected areas.
