The Marshall County Parks and Recreation Department Board members will be looking at other solutions into moving and preserving the old West Township Trustee cabin on State Road 17 in Marshall County.
Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board member Richard Markley told the board members last week that the owner of Log Home Restoration Specialists out of Lafayette said to rehabilitate and move the cabin would cost upwards of $200,000. Markley suggested that the board speak to previous contacts on moving the cabin with a little bit of restoration work for much less.
The board is interested in saving the 1846 cabin that is currently located on private property on State Road 17 in Marshall County. Board President Greg Hildebrand said history organizations in the county would like to see it preserved with its original integrity.
It was previously reported that the cabin could be relocated to a parcel on the West Township High School from its current location across the street on State Road 17. That detail is not quite finalized. If it could not be located there, it could be moved to Memorial Forest.
Markley said he would gather more information on restoration costs, among other work, and present them in a future meeting.
