Marshall County Community Corrections Advisory Board Receives Update

The Marshall County Community Corrections Advisory Board members were updated on the operations of the organization in a meeting Thursday afternoon.

Director Ward Byers said there are 125 clients with Community Corrections.  He relayed other statistics to the Advisory Board members.

“In the first quarter of the year, we had 211 folks pass through our doors,” commented Byers.  “We have 13 on pre-trial, currently on different varieties of felony-levels and a different variety of cases.  In the first half of the year, we conducted 254 drug screens and 71 of those were positive.  Those positives are still predominantly meth and amphetamines, followed by benzodiazepines and heroin in second and third.  We’ve had 21 violations filed so far this year.  Four of those were for new offenses and 16 of those were technical violations of different varieties and different types.”

He asked the Advisory Board members to include another $46,573.80 in the annual state grant request to hire an additional case manager as numbers are high.  The board members approved the request.

The board members also approved the budget for the remainder of the year for $159,614.50.  The Marshall County Council approved that in a previous meeting of that board.

Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman and Sheriff Matt Hassel also made budget requests which will be presented in a future newscast.
