The Argos Town Council members were presented with a candidate to fill a full-time EMT position with Argos EMS Wednesday night.
In a previous meeting, the council members agreed that the new employee will be paid for out of the town’s budget. There will be plans to hire more EMTs as the process moves forward, but one will be hired at the start.
Argos Economic Development Director Mark VanDerWeele said he interviewed candidates along with Fire Chief Mark Dean and EMS Director Sarah McCallum and took a recommendation to the Argos Fire Protection Territory Board which was approved. The recommendation was then brought before the Argos Town Council for approval Wednesday night. The council approved the recommendation with a unanimous vote.
An offer of employment will be extended to that candidate for acceptance. That candidate is expected to start in July.
Another full-time EMT will be hired closer to the end of the summer and will be hired by the Fire Territory Board. A third EMT will be hired at the end of the year to start at the beginning of the new year to be paid for out of the Argos Fire Protection Territory funds.
