Plymouth BPWS, City Council Agree to Electronic Meeting Policy Resolution

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members and the Plymouth City Council members approved resolutions last week that would allow each entity an opportunity to meet electronically outside of a state emergency declaration.

Governor Eric Holcomb recently signed a bill that would allow meetings to be held virtually after the emergency declaration expires.  Electronic government meetings are allowed under the declaration, but more strict provisions will be in place when the declaration is lifted.

The policy would require a majority of the members to be present at the regular meeting location where others could attend virtually, if needed.  Communication with officials to enable the virtual option would need to take place in advance of the meeting.

Members cannot attend more than two meetings in a row in a virtual manner.  Members must also attend more than half of the meetings in the year in person.

To be eligible to vote, a member attending virtually must be able to be seen by video and heard by audio to cast a vote on an action item.

Both the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety and the Plymouth City Council members approved the policy in their respective meetings with a unanimous vote.
