Eight New COVID-19 Cases Reported Locally

Eight more people in the tri-county area have tested positive with COVID-19, according to Monday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health. 

Three more cases were reported in Marshall County, four more cases in Starke County and one more case in Pulaski County.  They are among 559 additional people in the state who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. 

The number of COVID-19 patients in the hospital is on a downward trend with 100 less hospitalizations than one week ago. 

The number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 variants is increasing.  As of Monday, there are 1,986 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant originally identified in the U.K., 265 cases of the variant originally identified in California, 178 cases of the P.1 variant originally identified in Brazil, and 18 cases of the variant originally identified in South Africa. 

The COVID-19 vaccine is available to residents ages 12 and older.  The Pfizer vaccine will only be issued to residents under the age of 18.  To make an appointment, visit www.ourshot.in.gov or call 211.  An appointment is not needed at several clinics in the state.  That information can be found on the website. 

In the state’s updated school dashboard, it shows 625 new student COVID-19 cases, 32 new teacher cases and 54 staff cases in the state. 

Locally, less than five new student COVID-19 cases were reported at Plymouth High School, Menominee Elementary School, LaVille Junior/Senior High School, John Glenn High School, Urey Middle School, and Walkerton Elementary School.  There were less than five new teacher COVID-19 cases at John Glenn High School and Urey Middle School, and less than five new staff COVID-19 cases at Walkerton Elementary School.
