While county and municipal governments have received CARES Act funding, school corporations have been given funds to assist with expenses and projects. More funds for schools were also included in the recent American Rescue Plan Act.
Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman said the school board members have been approving funds for two recent distributions and making plans for spending funds in an upcoming distribution of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds.
Shuman explained, “ESSER II we are using to reimburse for our HVAC project that we’ve already completed, and then we also did some doors with that project. We’ve pretty much allocated all of those funds. ESSER I, or CARES Act funds, we have spent approximately half of that and we are going to re-budget to include some stipends for staff in that proponent. We’re working through that budget. For ESSER III, we’re creating a list now and doing our Capital Projects list now. Some of those may overlap and be put into ESSER III.”
The school corporation received almost $138,000 in CARES Act funds, a little over $647,000 in ESSER II funds, and the school will receive over $1.4 million in ESSER III funds.
